Los Angeles’ Culver City Arts District is hosting its 4th Annual Artwalk
this Saturday and its a must see self-guided day of art and culture.
With 42 galleries and exhibition spaces open from 12-8pm there is more
than you can probably see in one day.
Culver City boasts everything from blue-chip galleries like Blum and
Poe, LAX Contemporary and Roberts and Tilton to emerging galleries like
Cherry and Martin, Corey Helford, LeBasse Projects and
Kinsey/DesForges. There are also some fantastic restaurants like Wilson
and Fathers Office to dine in.
Speaking of art and dining, DailyduJour is co-sponsoring the Artwalk After Party at Royal/T,
our favorite mini-museum and cafe. Join us and owner Susan Hancock for
a great after-artwalk evening from 7-11pm. Grab dinner and some drinks

So your sitting around on June 26th in la la land and thinking you might be interested in hearing a good rock band that got some attitude, has a sound that reminds you a bit of the doors and is playing at the kick ass Whiskey a Go Go. Well you might do well to check out Twenty 7 who happens to be playing at the Whiskey a Go Go on exactly June 26th, 2009. They are a high energy band who's sound reminds me a bit of the Doors crossed with a hint of Led Zeppelin.

Mark
Moore Gallery is pleased to introduce new work by the innovative
collaboration Asgar/Gabriel. Asgar/Gabriel's large-scale paintings are
postmodern mise en scène where linear narrative is lost; where the
figurative and the abstract, image and text exist simultaneously and
vie for the viewer's attention. These dislocated canvases ironically
serve to locate a contemporary audience who is perfectly at ease with
the disjunctive over-stimulation of a world saturated by the media and
the image.
In an age of appropriation, Asgar/Gabriel acknowledge numerous art
historical influences. Elements of painting - from Baroque to Pop Art
to Abstraction - are all absorbed and reassembled to create worlds
where reality and virtuality interplay. Just as their youthful subjects
set themselves adrift within this fragmentary, shifting landscape, the
viewer happily succumbs to the sensory overload.
"Considering the flood of images inundating us every day, at the start
of each of our works we face the question of the specific options that
differentiate the painted picture from other pictorial media."
-Asgar/Gabriel

In conjunction with Giant Robot, Scion presents Insiders, Outsiders & The Middle at
its 4,500 square foot Installation L.A. Gallery. At Giant Robot, the
definition of art ranges from straight contemporary painting to
sculpted figures (which were considered action figures just a few years
ago). This exhibition celebrates not the disparate mediums, but the
divergent mindsets of artists--as well as the gray areas.
Insiders are
artists who work so hard in front of their computers that they don’t
leave their chairs long enough to hang their pieces on walls. More
often, their art is found onscreen, in print, and on T-shirts. Adrian Johnson is an example from the U.K., with a retro drawing style inspired by children's books. The other Insiders are from Japan. Noriko Ashino runs
the A Piece of Design firm, and specializes in a variety of disciplines
including character design and graphics. Sometimes known as ZariganiWorks, the duo of Taro Mukasa and Yoshitane Sakamoto are
responsible for the infamous Suicide Bomb Button, have created the Kore
Janai Robo (which has gone from handmade wood figurines to vinyl
characters with a TV show), and freelance design toys, characters, and
products.

Ed Fox by Ed Fox
Ed Fox and the people from Taschen Books have done it again with their newest release titled Ed Fox: Glamour from the Ground Up. Exploring the sensuality of a woman's body while paying special attention to her feet, Ed Fox takes us on a sexy and erotic journey of sensuality with several of the adult entertainment industries most famous stars. The book also includes a wildly entertaining DVD which redefines the meaning of erotic art. - Joe Dirosa
The most tempting part of a woman's body is her feet. Feet are a
woman's second body, the one I can visually enjoy without her being
offended or even aware, and never would I have imagined that my little
secret would attract so many people. —Ed Fox
Ed Fox has been called the new Elmer Batters, but he's
clearly no imitator. Yes, there's that "little secret" he shares with
the late Mr. Batters, but Fox celebrates the female foot
in his own way, creating a style that is unique, contemporary and
technically impeccable. Because he draws inspiration from both still
photography and music video there's a strong sense of movement in his
photos, reflecting his own energetic personality.
